The percentage is the increase between the state's average seven-month number, and the August number. This data is followed by the total number of reports so far in September, and finally if that state remains at the same rate, a predictor number for total September reports....

One of the latter was presented by the MUFON organization in October, 2008. The special was carried by the Discovery Channel. Titled "UFOs over Earth," the hour long show addressed an extremely compelling case of UFO sightings, an alien encounter, and possible alien abduction.
On January 8, 2007, this baffling case began in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on the banks of the Cape Fear River.
The main witness in this case is one Chris Bledsoe Sr. Bledsoe, a successful builder and commercial pilot, was well liked and respected in his community. On the day of the strange events, he was fishing with four other men, Donny Ackerman, Gene Robinson, David McDonald. and Chris Bledsoe Jr. The relationship between Bledsoe and the other three men was not addressed fully on the TV program, but Mr. Bledsoe informed me that Ackerman, Robinson, and McDonald worked for him as framing subcontractors, and had just finished a large beach home and gotten paid the day of the encounter.
They invited Chris Sr. and Jr. to go fishing with them. Bledsoe Sr. said, "Why not?" as his wife and three other children were out of town that day. They all rode to the fishing spot in Bledsoe's four door pickup truck because it was a four-wheel drive, and could maneuver in the muddy banks of the river.
Bledsoe took a walk away from the fishing spot, and spotted three UFOs. He returned to the fishing spot, and pointed out the objects to the other three men. They were frightened by the UFOs, and quickly left the river, seeing the objects again. After Bledsoe arrived home, and went out into his backyard to find out why his dogs were barking. He followed them into the woods, and saw an alien being.
After the basic details of Bledsoe's encounter were taken by MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) investigators, the UFO group was anxious to gather testimony from Bledsoe's fishing buddies, but they had trouble locating the three for a time.

He is a rescue scuba diver and, prior to his "experience," was a noted hunter on record as having killed one of the largest bears in North Carolina.
In January 2007, Chris, his son Chris Jr. and three of of his subcontractors, Donny Ackerman, Gene Robinson, and David McDonald witnessed a series of terrifying sightings of unexplained phenomena. They were investigated by the organization MUFON and a scientist from the Space Industry.
Their experience was featured on the Discovery Channel's 2008 series UFOs Over Earth: The Fayetteville Incident.
Chris currently lives in North Carolina, with his wife Yvonne and their four children. He owns chickens and dogs and keeps a large garden. He loves backpacking and nature. Since his experience Chris has given up the sport of hunting.

* Where will the "Dispatch Operator" be housed and how will that person be notified of an incident?
* Will NUFORC be a major source for your calls, or will a completely new network for UFO reporting be created?
* How will those calls be vetted for importance and what will the trigger be to generate a call for an emergency investigation into an incident?
* Where will the "sophisticated equipment and laboratories manned by 50 scientists in all fields of study" located, and who are they?
* As a follow-up, I would ask what equipment is included in this mix, since the discussion of this several years ago was very extensive?
* As with any emergency preparedness scenario, this would require practice to become efficient at the process. Are there test scenarios being considered to prepare for the real thing?
* Has there been a discussion of what the trigger would be to initiate a quick response?
* If "physical evidence" is the key (as it was in earlier discussions), how many such Events have occurred in the past two years that would meet that criteria in the North American Continent? This would give you an idea of how often such responses might be needed and the funding level required.
* How do you handle the "local" MUFON investigators who want to race to the scene and might contaminate the evidence that is gathered? There are jurisdictional issues here that MUFON will have to address, and to believe that all MUFON investigators are qualified to handle such investigations is, IMO, foolish.
In the end, what is the goal of this "investigation"? Previously, the goal was to generate articles for publication in scientific journals on the unusual nature of trace case evidence, but current cases were few and far between. Bigelow wasn't into the scientific exploration as much as the technology that he might profit from, so I'm not sure this is his focus.
We haven't seen many MUFON leaders mention this backing, with the exception of the article that everyone is quoting. I suspect that this information wasn't supposed to be released yet and MUFON may be caught off guard a bit.
One other point I might make is that MUFON was part of the effort funded by the SciFi Channel that looked into this concept, but the "UFO Leadership" group was headed up by Mark Rodeghier of CUFOS, and if he's working with MUFON in the Bigelow effort they would at least have a head start at some of the issues to be addressed and some early thinking. Most of us involved in the early effort became disillusioned by the lack of response from some quarters, leaving the proposed web site and rapid response team up in the air. It didn't help that the SciFi Network was bought out and their focus changed, but we might have gotten a bit further if we'd been able to get more involvement.

The newspaper reported that a review of UFO cases by a MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) board found that Texas was among the top five states for sightings. North and central Texas had a few of the "strongest 10 cases" of inexplicable activity in the sky.

James Ragland for the Morning News wrote that "the whole Lone Star State is a hotbed of UFO activity."
Why? MUFON spokesman Roger Marsh cited large population with several airports and military bases. Most reported sightings turn out to have earthly origins, according to Marsh.
"[M]ost of this stuff that's flying around here that we call unknown is our own government's," MUFON National Director of Investigations Steve Hudgeons told the Morning News, noting that "there's a percentage that remain unknown."

Across the country, MUFON reported a record 7,182 sightings of unidentified flying objects last year - a 27 percent increase over the year before. Texas trailed only California in the number of sightings.

"Aurora, Tex. -- (UPI) -- A grave in a small north Texas cemetery contains the body of an 1897 astronaut who was 'not an inhabitant of this world,' according to the International UFO Bureau.
The group, which investigates unidentified flying objects, has already initiated legal proceedings to exhume the body and will go to court if necessary to open the grave, director Hayden Hewes said Wednesday."
"After checking the grave with metal detectors and gathering facts for three months, we are certain as we can be at this point [that] he was the pilot of a UFO which reportedly exploded atop a well on Judge J.S. Proctor's place, April 19, 1897," Hewes said. He was not an inhabitant of this world."

This led to the assertion raised in MUFON's report that, given the presumption that it originated in 1897, the sample could not be of terrestrial nature, but they also stated that it just could have been an object put there at any time during the last century.
MUFON continued their investigation at the Aurora Cemetery and found a grave maker that appeared to show a flying saucer. Near the grave maker, detectable readings from a metal-detector were made. MUFON asked the cemetery association for permission to exhume the grave, but they declined.
After MUFON's investigation, the grave marker mysteriously disappears and a three-inch pipe was placed into the ground. MUFON's metal detector could no longer pick up any readings from the grave, thus it was presumed that the metal was removed from the grave.
