I haven't even read much about the new lights over Phoenix, just casual glances. Even with that, some things about this are interesting:
* The timing. A month or six weeks or so after the "first" sighting years ago.
* The expected responses that the lights are flares, military planes, lanterns -- anything but a true UFO.
* Visitors from outer space. In other words, aliens.
The lights, if they are the same -- and how can anyone know? -- are interesting to be sure, if for no other reason than they have everyone very excited. (And for the jaded faux UFO "researchers" and snarly skeptics, bored.)
It's an interesting look into UFOlogy itself, the infrastructure in its responses to the lights, and the witnesses; then and now.
One thing to remember is that, like many areas (Montana, Utah, Colorado, just to name three) UFO sightings, strange lights in the sky, go back hundreds of years in some cases. Same with Phoenix. Ten years ago wasn't the first; things like that have been going on in that region for a very long time.
Regardless of what this new incident in Phoenix turns out to be, it does seem we're in a "flap" UFO wise, and have been for awhile now.

I've met Kevin on a couple of occasions; most recently at the annual MUFON conference in Denver, Colorado in July. And, even though it's fair to say we are poles apart (in some respects, but not all) when it comes to Roswell, a fine time was had hanging out and chatting with Kevin - demonstrating that disagreeing on certain aspects of Ufology does not mean daggers need be drawn!
Well, for some in Ufology, it does. But, I'm pleased to say that Kevin and I were able to amiably hang out, and not get into that pathetic "with me or against me" mindset that seems to dominate much of Ufological thinking.
But, you may ask: what about the book? What do "I" think of CRASH? What should "you" think of it? Okay, here we go...
First: if, when it comes to UFO crash-retrieval cases you are a wide-eyed true believer who swallows whole just about each and every story of dead aliens; crashed, wrecked and recovered UFOs; and "Hangar 18" that crosses your tedious path, then this is "not" the book for you.
I should clarify: if you "are" of that very sad and tragic mindset, then you should still most definitely read the book, but you may find that more than a few cherished beliefs fall by the wayside, in the process. The book might even give you a nose-bleed. And, such would probably be mightily deserved too.
If, however, you have a deep, open-minded approach to crashed UFO accounts, but are driven by a quest for the truth (whatever that may be), rather than by a desire to only ever follow that path of a definitive "I Want To Believe" nature, then you'll derive much pleasure, satisfaction and insight from CRASH.
So, with that bit of a rant out of the way, onto the book!
Kevin, as just about everyone in Ufology knows, is a firm adherent of the idea that aliens from some far-away world met their deaths in the harsh desert of New Mexico back in the long-gone summer of 1947. And, maybe they did. I may have written a book suggesting otherwise - BODY SNATCHERS IN THE DESERT - but, I have always openly admitted that in the hall-of-mirrors world that is Ufology, truth and disinformation make for very strange bed-fellows of a truly unpredictable nature.
So, on the matter of Roswell, we get what we would expect from Kevin: a solid look at the Roswell affair, but with the emphasis on those witnesses - and their attendant testimony - that collectively push the case down the road to E.T.
However, those of you who assume that just because Kevin is of a "Roswell was alien" approach, also means that he's a proponent of just about every crash case that comes along, it's time to take a pill or two, a few deep breaths, lower your blood-pressure, and calm down.
Aurora, Texas, 1897; Aztec, New Mexico 1948; and Spitzbergen, Norway, 1952 are all summarily dismissed as probable hoaxes. And Del Rio 1950 doesn't come out of this looking particularly glowing either. The near-legendary Kingman, Arizona event of 1953 comes in for some deep criticism, too; even though Kevin admits that this is a case that remains open, to some intriguing degree.
But Kevin is not the evil destroyer of most-things crashed and saucer-shaped that some of you might now have in mind (and if you do, that only serves to demonstrate one of the major aspects of the Ufological field: its utterly ridiculous emotionally-driven pettiness. And you know who you are: you send me crappy emails from time to time, written on your mommy's computer!).
By that, I mean, Kevin concludes that Roswell was not the only occasion upon which E.T. has crashed, burned and been scooped up, body-bag-style, for transfer to some secret locale where it subsequently gets sliced, diced and dissected.
The admittedly very interesting Las Vegas affair of 1962 (if you don't know the one, then buy the book!) gets positive, pro-alien coverage. And Ubatuba, 1957 remains very much an open case for Kevin, and one considered worthy of further coverage, reinvestigation and new study.
As for the rest of the book, well you get a great deal on Stringfield, Kecksburg, Project Moon Dust, and that Needles, California incident of 2008 that practically screams "Remotely Piloted Vehicle!" And much more, too.
So, if you're into crashed UFO cases and you're looking for a careful, unbiased look at the phenomenon in its entirety, then this is a book from which you should come away refreshed, informed, and satisfied.
But if you're someone who is utterly driven by belief systems, and totally rejects the notion that certain classic cases might be the results of hoaxes, misidentification and more, well that's just too bad.
I don't agree with all of Kevin's conclusions, but I do know that Ufology needs more books like this, where the author leaves beliefs at the door, and dissects the phenomenon in an unbiased way and without having to resort to championing certain cases, just because that's what certain shrill screamers in Ufology want to hear.

I was home and went to close windows for the night and just looked into the night sky and saw a light in the west. Thought it was a plane at first but as I watched the light didnt seem to move. It appeared to be an orange sphere. I grabbed an old pair of binoculars and didnt get a great deal of detail so I grabbed a camera with 50X zoom and zoomed in on the light. Through the camera lens it was, at first, A PERFECT SPHERE BUT WITH GEOMETRIC TEXTURE. I took 22 shots but because of the zoom and not having the camera on a tripod, most shots show camera movement. As I took shots I just kept saying to no one, "What IS this?" While attempting to capture shots the shape changed. Id stop and look out the window to see if the light looked differently and then go back to the camera lens. I kept trying to determine if this was a plane or blimp or what. For the first few minutes it just looked like a sphere. Then it seemed to change shape or size so I just kept taking pictures. At one point I almost laughed at myself figuring I would hear that it was just some special display. AS IT SEEMED TO CHANGE SHAPE it just suddenly was gone. When I looked at the shots I got I decided that it was not a plane or blimp or any flying object that I could identify. I went back on my patio and noted that it was a clear night with stars visible but the stars visible were much smaller and not orange in color. NOTE: This is only one of many amazing photographes.

While outside at my sister-in-law's home smoking, I noticed the object while looking for an usual commercial airplane altitude. When I turned my head toward the east, I saw this enormous objects. When I first saw it I was astonished because of the size. It was hovering horizontally in the sky. I told my sister to come check it out and the object was vertical at that point. When I saw it I had no doubt in my mind that it was a UFO. It was hovering, it was as big as a skyscraper, had 3 bright light that allowed me to make out the color,metallic silver. It was approximately between 4 -5 am. As soon as I noticed it was sitting horizontally on the eastern sky of Oklahoma, I called my sister in law cause I wanted her to see it. I looked and the object was vertical at that point. Before she could get a good look of it, this " mountain" flew up at a speed none of our aircraft could even come close to attempt, due to the monumental size of this object, I still can't believe what I saw last night. I never ever seen anything that can even come close to it. It was enormous ! It was CIGAR SHAPED but rounded on one side, and I don't understand how something so big could disappear in matter of seconds! Like many of those interested in the paranormal I watch all the paranormal based TV shows that seem limitless. I do have a few that I find worth watching where well investigated ideas, information and evidence are presented with intelligent conversation providing the viewing public with worthwhile material. I have gained insight and have been able to educate myself on many topics I did not understand or had little or no knowledge about by way of a few well done shows. I enjoy and look forward to my small list of shows that fall in to that category.
My problem is all the other shows that pollute and by way of their ridiculous presentations of fake events and investigations leave the public unable to detect what is real information and what is a pile of malarkey!
At this point I have to ask myself if this saturation of insulting garbage is being tossed at us for the pure purpose of making money by the developers of the shows or if it is something more? It has gotten to the point one has got to ask if there is a bigger purpose to the huge amount of disinformation being forced on the public. Could presenting ridiculous situations handled by bumbling fools ending with useless exploits be a way to drive us away from being concerned, rationally interested and wanting answers about some very curious and potentially dangerous topics?
The straw that broke this camel's back came while watching a few episodes of a popular ghost hunting show. The show should be banned as the methods the young men use in their adventures are is his dangerous and foolish. The fact this tattooed often shirtless host often risks his life is one thing. My fear is that young impressionable people may copy his antics and that could prove fatal for some teen that may idolize this foolish host of this ghost hunting show. He never seems to obtain any proof, or evidence that is substantial or useful. His show continues without restrictions or seemingly without concern about the harm his methods may do to an innocent naive audience. It was during an episode of this show where the host laid down under a large sharp ax hanging over a doorway and dared an angry ghost to drop the ax over his out stretched neck while he laid on the floor with his neck out stretched daring the ghost to behead him. I wonder how the show would have explained it if in fact the angry ghost had quickly and swiftly dropped that sharp ax across this ridiculous young mans out stretched neck detaching his head from his fool hearted shoulders?
Of course the show made sure (hopefully) that this would not occur. What they did not think about is the large number of silly non thinking young people who faithfully watch this show trying to duplicate the same antics in a location they may think is haunted or paranormal in nature. What if after seeing this host endanger himself over and over they follow the same route without the backdrop of a staff of people co coordinating and choreographing the events on the show and wander off to find a real ax that could fall dead in to the top of their head. Do the people writing and designing these awful segments ever consider the consequences of the garbage they are presenting to their viewing public?
Shows like that one really annoy me but the real camel back breaker came for me with the Mountain Monsters show now airing. For years real researchers have been spending endless hours and money investigating the reports of all the topics we consider unknown. Many trained hunters and researchers have spent years in pursuit of the truth concerning the world wide sightings of the Bigfoot creatures, strange unknown animals as well as moth man sightings among many other topics. There are organizations that have spent years trying to find real hard evidence concerning these anomalies that deserve our credit and interest. I can only wonder what these good hard working people think when they see episodes like the one I recently watched where a group of broken down mountain hillbilly men go out on a one day trip to hunt out a big foot which they rename the grass man.
They claim this creature is 9 feet tall nearly 1000 pounds living in a wooded area they intend to search. Not only do they find this grass man on their one day hunt but are handed an excellent video provided by a local of this beast. They quickly build a trap to catch this grass man creature in which they claim the beast watches the one man they send out alone to build the trap. One has to wonder why they would allow one man alone out in the grass man creature's territory to build a trap that the creature watches him build but that seems to go by without thought in this ridiculous show. Of course the group of men immediately find a Bigfoot house that contains a Bigfoot nest. Of course they get attacked by the big foot and run about yelling and screaming as the supposed beast attacks the house they are searching. A lot of running around the empty house takes place before they decide the beast simply decided to run away. They return to see if the grass man who watched them build the trap - ran to it and jumped into it which was truly laughable and of course no creature was found.
Amazingly perfect large animal tracks were found in abundance all over the place. According to the show the Bigfoot just misses the trap but they do get an excellent photo of the animal. Let me sum this up. In one quick trip this group of non-professional men managed to obtain a great video of this grass man creature, find his home, find a nest he built, have a fight with him and obtain a clear photo of him. They then decide to pack up and waddle back to their pickup trucks and leave. Am I crazy or is this to the point of extreme insult to all our intelligences?
If any of these events took place I think the first thing you or I would do is call the local authorities. I would think they would want to see the house and nest this creature lives in along with the video, photo and abundant foot tracks of this attacking creature. I also would think they would want to show where they had heavy rocks thrown at them and where the fresh footprints could be found before they disappeared. The encounter as they tell it was clearly a danger to the community in which it took place.
Next would it not be their place to call a professional well known organization that has been hunting these creatures for years to have them come in to investigate the house, nest, and area where this creature had been living? I am sure many universities and researchers of all types would have wanted to have a go at this but instead they piled into their trucks and drove away! I would think if the events shown on this show actually took place it would have been a find of all time. Obviously they are funning us which is entertaining but without question the type of garbage that keeps us in the dark ages concerning all of these topics.
This show had a similar ridiculous hunt for a Mothman creature which was completely the dumbest thing I have seen in a long time. They built a huge bug zapper that they set up. The antics on this episode was childlike and over the top silly. Oh and yes they forgot to set up a camera to take a photo of the Mothman knocking down the trap and getting away. How odd, must have had a shortage of CGI funds that week so setting up a camera for the biggest event of all time was- simply forgotten!
I know this is just fun and games and realize the public does not take this TV seriously however I must stick up for all the hard working dedicated people who do go out for weeks at a time with their own funds to truly try to find answers to all of these mysteries and unknowns. I can only imagine how insulted and deflated seeing shows like this flourish must be for them and hope in some small way I can make some of you understand that tuning on terrible shows like this one is not only taking backward steps in finding the truth. It also is an insult to all those who have spent years devoting real research and investigating in a professional manner concerning all these topics we really need to understand.
Can you imagine how far we would be with understanding the subjects that we consider paranormal if those who really want to know the truth and work in a systematic scientific and professional manner were given the money and time from TV land to really do the work? We would know what the hell is crawling around our woods, living along with us in our dimension and visiting us from places far beyond our understanding. I also know you cannot find answers in 30 or 60 minute sitcom setups. You can however make a fast buck playing upon our ignorance which is exactly what they are doing. I guess it is up to us to tune out shows that insult us in order for a difference to happen. Until then I suppose we will be stuck with being shown this garbage.

Silver ELONGATED OVAL OBJECT Flying a few miles west from Bluegrass Airport heading east/north east between Lexington and Versailles. A few thousand feet off the ground, but below any cloud cover. Would have thought it was an airliner, but no discernible wings or sound. I live in the flight path of an airport, so I am pretty familiar with planes coming in and landing and flying over head. This was in board daylight around noon. It looked like it would have been a airplane doing a wide circle of the airport for a landing run, except I could not see wings and the object make no sound [IE there was no trailing jet roar, typical with most airplanes]. Also the object was in airspace typically not used object was a significant distance off the ground, over 1000ft, but not high enough to be a normal airliner cruising. It was also in an air space that normally the planes entering or leaving the local airport do not use for circling. It headed east/north east for a about a minutes or so, then seemed to turn north/north east and disappeared heading that direction. NOTE: The above image is a rendering.

ALIEN UFO SPOTTED NEAR A PLANE CRASH ON LAKE MICHIGAN
JULY 27, 2013 SAINT FRANCIS WISCONSIN
Description: My name is T.K. I live in St Francis, WI at the Landing Lake Condos. A plane crashed into Lake Michigan. A single prop plane crashed killing two people. Police were looking around in the Lake. News organizations were there to report the incident. My girlfriend Pam and I went out to look after hearing about it. It was a little after the crash. I guess the time was about 5 PM. I noticed up in the sky and saw this black "Mickey Mouse eared" floating black object floating in the sky near, but not directly above, the boat activity. It was northeast relative to my position on the lakefront. There was no sound. It floated or hovered. It was very difficult to capture with my girlfriend's Olympus camera. The focus went in and out. Luckily it was set to take quick shots in rapid succession and I captured these images. Then the object slowly moved up and away. It disappeared into the clouds as it moved east over the Lake. I hope you find the photos interesting. I used my girlfriend's computer to crop and zoom in on the images. She still has the originals on a memory card for the camera. Note: The original photos have been requested. It is difficult to explain this sighting. It looks like some sort of floating debris, but the fact that it ascended out of sight debunks this explanation.

Two people were killed when a small plane crashed Saturday in Lake Michigan off Cudahy, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
The bodies of two middle-age males were pulled from the plane, which was found beneath 42 feet of water, said Erik Leuenberger, search and rescue mission coordinator for Lake Michigan for the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard identified the pilot as William Gensler of Racine. Officials said they were not releasing the name of the second victim, pending notification of relatives. Rescue crews from the Coast Guard and Milwaukee Fire Department responded to the crash, which was reported about 2:50 p.m. Sixteen divers searched the lake for more than six hours. Two helicopters and seven boats assisted in the search. Officials said it isn't known whether any others were on the plane and that the search would continue until they confirm that no others were on board. The plane was a four-seat, single-engine 1975 Piper Cherokee, which was reported down about 1.5 miles east of Cudahy. The plane is registered and based out of Batten International Airport in Racine, where it took off at about 2:30 pm Saturday, according to airport general manager Dave Mann.
