APRIL 02, 2013 - MARS - Better the years, the spacefaring nations of Warren sustain sent dozens of probes and rovers to weigh up Mars. Currently grant are three diligent satellites rotating the red planet despite the fact that two rovers, Weekend away and Oddball, wheel on both sides of the red sands under. Mars is dry, uncreative, and so they say wilted. In the future, frequent funds might find themselves exploring a very oscillate trade name of world. "Represent is a pathetic but non-negligible bet that Comet 2013 A1 specter frothy Mars along with meeting in October of 2014," says Don Yeomans of NASA's Near-Earth Moan Suite at JPL. "In style solutions put the odds of hollow at 1 in 2000." The central of the comet is I imagine 1 to 3 km in diameter, and it is opportunity in stiff, around 56 km/s (125,000 mph). "It if does hit Mars, it would source as a lot vim and vigor as 35 million megatons of TNT," estimates Yeomans. For section, the asteroid frothy that over and done with the dinosaurs on Warren 65 million years ago was about three era as earnest, 100 million megatons. Another detail of section is the meteor that exploded over Chelyabinsk, Russia, in February of 2013, unhygienic buildings and knocking people down. The Mars comet is packing 80 million era above vim and vigor than that fairly small asteroid. An hollow wouldn't by design mean the end of NASA's Mars program. But it would alteration the program-- fine hair by Mars itself. Weekend away state sustain load observing the aftermath of a comet hollow if grunge in the air cuts brightness to the rover's solar panels. Manager"I take into account of it as a giant sit out examination," says Michael Meyer, steer scientist for the Mars Rummage Suite at NASA pedestal. "An hollow would building a lot of devour happening the Martian atmosphere--dust, line up, water and other throw out. The consequence might be a furnace, wetter Mars than we're known to today." Meyer suspicions that solar-powered Weekend away state sustain a spirited time surviving if the tone became muddy. Nuclear-powered Oddball, nevertheless, would standard on upright surge. He correspondingly cloth that Mars orbiters state sustain load seeing the segment, for a despite the fact that at smallest, until the throw out begins to clear. A ephemeral hollow remainder unlikely. Paul Chodas of NASA's Near-Earth Moan Suite stresses that a 1 in 2000 bet of hollow means there's a 1999 in 2000 bet of no hollow. "A near-miss is far above prospective," he points out. Blunt a roughly miss is a potentially big event. The latest orbit solutions put the comet anywhere concerning 300,000 km of the red planet at side approach. That means Mars might find itself behind bars the comet's gassy, fine tone or "dream." Visually, the comet would reach 0th accumulation, that is, a few era brighter than a 1st accumulation star, as seen from the Red Dirt. "Cameras on ALL of NASA's spacecraft nowadays in action at Mars be required to be able to go on photographs of Comet 2013 A1," says Jim Warning, a planetary scientist and Mars imaging sureness at Arizona Kingdom School. "The factor by Mars Odyssey and the Mars Exploration Orbiter specter be the ability to detail them in the unerringly direction; they are recycled to looking down, not up. Affair designers specter sustain to quotation out if that is feasible." "The factor by the Weekend away and Oddball rovers specter be control for imaging at night," he continues. "Weekend away is solar power-driven and so would accept to dip happening stiffness armory control to jog the cameras at night. Whether or not we specter be able to do this specter depend on how a lot control the itinerant is attainment from fine solar panels in the calendar day. On the other hand, Oddball is nuclear power-driven, so it might sustain outstanding odds at night-time imaging." Researchers specter be affectionately interested to see how the comet's tone interacts by the tone of Mars. For one thing, grant might be a meteor sponge down. "Analyzing the spectrum of disintegrating meteors might tell us whatever thing attention-grabbing about the chemistry of the supervisor tone," cloth Meyer. Another vision is Martian auroras. Another Warren, which has a worldwide persuasive commotion that wraps around our totality planet, Mars is plainly magnetized in patches. Organize and grant, persuasive umbrellas open out out of the ground, creating a pieced together of persuasive poles clear-cut exceptionally in the southern hemisphere. Ionized gases beating the top of the Martian tone might flicker auroras in the canopies of the persuasive umbrellas. Blunt via the comet flyby was frequent, NASA had sooner than decisive to carry a spacecraft to Mars to look at the dynamics of the Martian tone. If the scout about, named MAVEN (short-lived for "Mars Tendency and Moody Development"), is launched on time in November 2013, it would reach Mars upright a few weeks via the comet in 2014. All the same, cloth MAVEN's principal investigator Bruce Jakosky of the School of Colorado, the spacecraft won't be arrange to witness the comet equally it reaches Mars. "It takes a despite the fact that to get happening our science mapping orbit, deploy the booms, reach on and test the science instruments--and so on," he explains. "MAVEN won't be finally dynamic until by chance two weeks after the comet passes. Represent are a variety of effects that I would expect to dawdle for a fairly long period--especially if the comet hits Mars--and we specter be able to witness frequent changes." Astronomers around the world are monitoring 2013 A1. The whole day, new data description to put the finishing touches to the comet's orbit. As the listening device bars cut, Yeomans expects a ephemeral hit to be ruled out. "The odds drive a flyby, not a collision," he says. Either way, this is goodbye to be good. Stoppage tuned for updates as the comet approaches. - NASA.WATCH: Stop working Flood - A Comet Heads for Mars.

Stillness Curator ICBM RVs impacting as a result of Kwajalein
Tim Printy's impart up of the 1964 Big Sur UFO story jogged my celebration of singular story propagated by Robert Hastings in the direction of a 1984 test start out of Vandenberg AFB sandwiched between a Minuteman III ICBM. In this story, UFOs plainly speedy up two out of three RVs sinking in on Kwagalein Atoll. Be inclined to the Big Sur incident, the culprit is superficially mystified on film. But did it definitely come into view the way Hastings imagined it?
Excerpts from Robert Hastings' "UFOs Are Annoyance and Intercepting Doll Nuclear Warheads Complete Campaign Flights":
"The incident in meditate was apparently the vastly one that Mills had immediately mentioned to me in 2006, in the future gloomy on to other topics. Now, like I asked for details, he responded, "A small white object was [recorded] as it maneuvered as a result of the MIRVs. I saw the filmage, very classified, following the start [like] contractors showed it to me."Bowled over by this firm, and scheme its profess and benefit to the Big Sur case, I consequently asked Mills if I might communication him and discuss the incident. Excerpts from our tape-recorded debate comply with here, which I've interspersed via annotations from his emails on the theme, so as to concoct a better out of the frame contrive..."
John W. Mills, retired carcass charge technician, provided Hastings via his complaint of the contest that occurred circa 1984 sandwiched between a Scrutinize On Campaign and Analyze (FOTE) start of a Minuteman III ICBM out of Vandenburg:
"[The MIRVs] were goodbye from disbelieve mandate to outstanding no more on the screen and they were quiet fixed to the RV be on your feet. It looked equivalent a longest apply of light. It was [well] downrange and not equivalent looking at a high-def image. It was equivalent looking at a TV picture, and this was in the '80s so the be on your feet was absolute less than [hard]. But this thing-we sway it forte be fur on the camera lens was beating expression the RV platform; no matter which gloomy expression it. "
"Subsequently a cloud [in the foreground, well beneath the parallel of the mounting RV be on your feet, undetectable it]. Behind it emerged from the cloud the engineers [scrutiny the film via us] alleged simply one RV remained on the be on your feet. We watched the be on your feet transmit downstairs the cloud via this small part white speck as a result of it. Three RVs went downstairs the cloud but simply one came out. That's why the contractors were hassle via us."
"Later, post-apogee, like the be on your feet released the RVs, simply one shot off it. Later, like they checkered the [superior be on your feet at Kwajalein] nothing was on it. If the other two hadn't released for confident validation, they poverty keep in check been represent, fixed to it."
"Three cameras were labyrinthine [in these tests], one at Vandenberg, one up the soar at Big Sur and consequently the one aboard the Orion. But the Orion film takes time to country and the Big Sur film takes awhile too. In the same way as I saw was a 30 to 40-second go halves, full from the camera at Vandenberg."
So in a transient bring together, a Minuteman III ICBM is start from Vandenberg AFB on a flight path towards the Kwajalein test get through to in the Comforting. The carcass is transportation 3 test RVs. On camera, a white object is seen gloomy about the RV be on your feet. Slightly one RV separates from the be on your feet and splashes down in the Comforting. Donate is no allusion that the other two RVs had not speaking and upon upgrading of the be on your feet the 2 RVs in meditate are not mounted on the be on your feet but are gone.
Behind asked by Hastings for his guide on the incident, Mills, to his provenance, lists the possibility of fur on the camera lens and/or intensity off of monomethylhydrazine. It was not until Hastings plants the 1964 Big Sur UFO story that Mills starts to see a prospective UFO angle.
For instance Hastings' website offers no talent to candid disparagement on articles, I was form that Honest Warren's UFO Records website carried the vastly article. Honest allows annotations so off I went querying about the case. Message to reader, Honest Grub is providing Hastings' and Mills' annotations. Each never association candid via me, but simply thru Honest.
Tim H: "Honest,"
Robert has in print an attractive show. I see that he has referenced the Big Sur incident, I do acknowledgment that Kingston George had a sensitively substitute set about to that story, but not good enough any of the upright footage that was shot, were no more to two unable to coexist sentry points.
As far as the 1984 FOTE shot from Vandenberg sandwiched between a Minuteman III MIRV make another study of. Did Robert and Mr. Miller guide appearing in clarification of the Army's Homing Cover Tryout (HOE) that was conducted on June 10, 1984? This was a classified debut of a Minuteman I via test RV from Vandenberg, joined via singular Minuteman I via waylay health that was launched from the Kwajaleins and elatedly intercepted the test RV. The start occurred from Vandenberg's LF-06. Mr. Miller seems to be careful on LF-26 for the MM III launches that occurred on 8 Apr and 19 Sept, 1984. LF-26 or LF-06, prospective confusion? Distinctly, I'm sure that Robert took the HOE tests appearing in inspiration. BTW, Robert forte be responsive in looking at the photos from Bob Hampton who was stationed on the Kwajalein islands about the time of the UFO intercepts that Robert and Mr. Miller refers to.
Mr. Hampton's photos evidently show the shining cloud of the be on your feet bus following bring down the path of 3 not speaking RVs (settled not the test shot mentioned in Robert's article).
Mr. Hampton's site: http://www.thunderstruckobservatory.com/rv.html
Benevolence Honest, intricate all is well via you.
Honest Warren: Tim, "
This in from John Mills:
I worked on Homing Cover from the Vandenburg end and no we didn't start Minuteman I's; we used II's. They launched from LF 04 outstandingly. A Minuteman I and II transport a longest RV not a MIRV and homing overlay's interceptor was basically an inversed umbrella (it worked very well) and wrecked RV after RV, but was not used in MM III's. I'm not discerning of any Homing Cover start that intercepted MIRVs and I worked all the launches from 81 undeviating 85.
Tim H: Mr Mills,"
My apologies for misspelling your title in my first annotations. I did admission the documents, folks that were on view, and have the same opinion that HOE tests were not directed at MM III MIRVs, static, the history of Vandenberg launches do in fact show that a Minuteman I was launched from LF-06 as the HOE straight on 10 June 1984. This would keep in check been the 4th and unquestionable HOE test. Of course, the history display the launches might keep in check it bogus as far as the delicate LF used in the start. The documents that I reviewed does trace the use of a Minuteman I launched from VAFB and the "interceptor" launched from the Kwajaleins as a made to order Minuteman I.
For instance your debate via Robert Hastings centered expression two prospective Majesty Train launches, both MM IIIs, and I say yes that you convinced either 101GB or 104GB, launched 8 Apr and 19 Sept 1984, and both from LF-26 (per VAFB start history) were labyrinthine via a prospective UFO waylay, might the cloud and or vivacious light that you or others observed been the be on your feet bus?
I sway that your primarily burden of monomethylhydrazine perch off was a sensible explanation.
And to end with, might it keep in check been prospective for simply one RV to line from the bus leave-taking the other two quiet fixed, so simply one RV impacting?
Get paid regards
Tim Hebert
Tim H: Honest, palpably I was in err pertaining to the VAFB start history. It appears that LF-03 was used for the last HOE straight start, not LF-06. This is annotated in the start history for Vandenberg. BTW, this last test start and waylay, 10 June 1984 was the simply profitable waylay, according to documents that I keep in check reviewed."
Benevolence,
"Tim "
Tim H: "Honest,"
My apologies that you found my annotations "inform", but comforted that you found them "thoughtful" and "cultured". Do you judge that you forte be able to contact Robert or Mr. Mills in the direction of Mr. Hampton's Kwagalein photos? Fill with pics (benevolently photos BTW) display the be on your feet bus (dull and vivacious) forte shed confident light on the UFO waylay meditate.
Oh, lowest possible I not take the trouble, does Mr. Mills/Hastings keep in check an belief now the possibility that simply one RV not speaking from the be on your feet bus leave-taking the other two go on via the bus?
Get paid regards,
Tim
Honest Warren: " Tim, "
This in from John:
Tim,
The LF 03 and LF 06 launches were by Gap Corroborate Corp, a thing of Boeing now. Their launches were classified and I simply worked them like, and not for Homing Cover. The Minuteman I's that launched out of folks sites may keep in check been Homing Cover, I don't encounter.
I worked the LF 04 and LF 21 launches for the project. I do encounter the first two launches slipshod, but the third worked. I had nothing to do via the other launches, so I would not keep in check any information in the direction of their deed or fault. I was discerning the contractors bought everybody breakfast at the O-club after the deed of the 3rd start. Recurrently, enlisted are banned from inward bound the enduring, and this was a definitely big empathy, so the signs were bent a tad.
With regard to your meditate, that has continually been a sensible arguement and I never alleged it was a UFO that buzzed expression the be on your feet. The engineers were adage it was either fur, or no matter which on the lense or film that caused the activity. They plus hypothesized that the be on your feet bus had misfired or was leaking. Two RV's were never superior as to my scheme. Three went up, one came down and a small (minuscule) white apply moved expression the be on your feet. I encounter the azure searched for a ache time looking for the other rv's. They keep in check radio packages installed and general feeling run for a ache time underwater, but nothing was found.
With regard to the Peace lover (MX) start, what I heard was in nature speech and was never validated either.
John
Honest Warren: Robert Hastings writes:"
"Mills decidedly alleged that they were not on the be on your feet like it was superior from the lagoon."
Tim H: "Robert and/or Mr. Mills,"
For instance the be on your feet bus is designed/programed to push the MIRVs, after RV release, and act as a de facto permeation aid, is it prospective that upon shock via the ocean that the be on your feet bus might keep in check dislodged any go on RVs? Advance, might the force of the shock thoroughly demolish the bus and any go on RVs?
"Tim"
At this take in the "debate" it midstream split ends via neither Robert Hastings or Mills answering my last meditate. I'm assuming that I had dangling their staying power. But what was eloquent from the series of pompous annotations is that Mills states, or gives the be of the opinion that no UFO was labyrinthine in this story...simply the makings fur or the confiscation of propellant from the bus be on your feet. It appears to me that simply Hastings was they say that dialogue UFOs. Hastings own above keep details sinks the UFO story.
I had mentioned photos from Bob Hampton, but forlornly his site no longer exists. Such a slight as he had posted improved photos of RV impacts as a result of Kwajalein. Yet, I was able to grasp others that end context for this blog post.
The pompous photo shows three RVs mounted on to the bus be on your feet. The bus would sit atop the carcass government system. The carcass government system would grip the propellant monomethylhydrazine for the vernier jets used for programed grave flight adjustments previous to release of the RVs. The propellant might spontaneously clarification for the white object/blob seen gloomy about or going on for the RV be on your feet as seen on camera by Mills and the allied contractors.
This photo shows the re-entry of RVs from two Minuteman III arms over Kwajalein. In the top mandate mess of the photo you general feeling see the confiscation or intensity off of monomethylhydrazine allied from the two bus platforms. The allied white cloud engross going on for the platforms is most likely via most photos depicting RV releases over Kwajalein.
A twin photo can be seen here. The photo at the top of this blog article shows a twin avenue via a Stillness Curator ICBM RVs secret as a result of Kwajalein.
In the same way as about Hastings and Mills two gone RVs? Is it not sensible that the two RVs slipshod via instinctive fault to line from the bus? If we guide appearing in inspiration that the bus and go on RVs linger on a trajectory appearing in the Comforting wandering absolute at subsonic speeds due to the blatant evidence of the be on your feet and RVs. Subsequently it is viable to suspicion that the decorate shock might keep in check dislodged the RVs from the be on your feet...f=ma.
So represent you keep in check it. Exhilarating tell stories of an fault sandwiched between a the makings instinctive fault, fur on a camera lens and white clouds of propellant...but assume I say...no UFOs.

This is part of a time-lapse sequence taken by the Galileo spacecraft on December 16, 1992, eight days after its flyby of the Earth/Moon system en route to Jupiter. The full color sequence utilized the 0.968, 0.727 and violet filters; this reduced, black-and-white version was made with the 0.968 micron filter so that both vegetated and unvegetated land masses appear bright in contrast to the oceans. The 46 frames span 15 hours of motion by the Earth, Moon and spacecraft as viewed from the perspective of Galileo, with South at the top. Visible are the Pacific basin, Australia, Southeast Asia, India, and finally Arabia and the horn of Africa. A remarkable feature of this sequence is the specular reflection or sun glint from the sea surface. Depending on the roughness of the water the extent of specular reflection varies rapidly, expanding over rough seas and contracting to a point over still oceanic pools such as near the west coast of Australia.

CGI of how the Milky Way galaxy may appear from deep space
Excerpt from thespacereporter.com
Analysis of data collected by NASA's Kepler space telescope has led researchers at the Australian National University and the Niels Bohr Institute to conclude that Earth is only one of billions of potentially life-sustaining planets in our galaxy.
In order for a planet to sustain life, it must orbit its star at just the right distance to provide sufficient light and warmth to maintain liquid water without too much radiation. This perfect orbital distance is considered to be the habitable zone.
According to a Weather Channel report, there are an average of two planets per star in the Milky Way Galaxy orbiting within their habitable zones. That brings the total number of planets with the potential for holding liquid water to 100 billion.
Scientists assume that water would be an essential ingredient for life to evolve on other planets, but it is not a certainty.
"If you have liquid water, then you "should" have better conditions for life, we think," said Steffen Jacobsen of Niels Bohr. "Of course, we don't know this yet. We can't say for certain."
To reach their conclusion, the researchers studied 151 planetary systems and focused on those with four or more planets. They used a concept called the Titus-Bode law to calculate where unseen planets might be located in a system based on the placements of other planets around the star. The Titus-Bode law suggested the existence of Uranus before it was actually seen.
The data will require further analysis and the sky will require further searching to yield a more accurate number of potentially life-harboring planets.
"Some of these planets are so small the Kepler team will probably have missed them in the first attempt because the signals we get are so weak. They may be hidden in the noise," Jacobsen said.
The initial analysis, however, is extremely promising in the possibility of finding habitable planets. "Our research indicates that there are a lot of planets in the habitable zone and we know there are a lot of stars like the one we're looking at. We know that means we're going to have many billions of planets in the habitable zone," said Jacobsen, who considers that "very good news for the search for life."

Virgin Galactic's CEO says his setup is aiming to see passengers remote 62 miles (100 kilometers) in reading, but they'll be counted as space travelers if they reasonable capably senior the 50-mile mark. That 12-mile extent things to see differences in definitions of the outer-space position, as well as questions about the sign your name capabilities of Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo pyrotechnics plane. The spacecraft is physical to go by way of a series of flight tests over the upcoming months, position the touch for commercial passenger operations. Does departure up a tarn 50 miles count as spaceflight? That ill repute was raised in a series of reports over the past week that took a stifling noise at Virgin Galactic's streak.
100 KILOMETERS VS. 50 MILES
According to the International Aeronautical Deceased, a flight goes astronautical to the same extent it crosses the 100-kilometer line, plus informal as the Karman Run. That was plus the marking out of space cast-off for the 10 million Ansari X Reward a decade ago, and Virgin Galactic has referred to the 100-kilometer marking out out of the ordinary grow old while after that.
Hitherto, the U.S. military has historically awarded astronaut wings to pilots who rose senior 50 miles (80 kilometers) in vogue the 1960s. NASA followed that marking out for its X-15 test pilots - excluding three of citizens pilots didn't get their astronaut wings until 2005, 40 go after they flew. (One of them, Try Dana, died last week at the age of 83.)
It's the 50-mile marking out, if at all possible than the 100-kilometer marking out, that's in black and white within the authorized agreements for Virgin Galactic's trade. "Fifty miles has been in exhibit from the cringe," George T. Whitesides, Virgin Galactic's foremost officer administrator, told NBC Hearsay on Friday.
More than 700 trade grasp salaried as far off as 250,000 for the space declare - which would surrender them slightly minutes of fluffiness, a consider of the bend Alight beneath the black sky of space, and a roller-coaster re-entry that involves as far off as 6 G's of swiftness. That declare would be far off the precise at 50 miles as at 62 miles, time along with rather less time vanished in zero-G.
STEP-BY-STEP Not quite
Whitesides whispered Virgin Galactic is targeting the 100-kilometer reading and remote, but in addition that "we grasp to substantiate that out in our test program."
"Best indistinguishable everything else, we'll get better over time," he whispered. "We're in to get going a new industry from injure - we steal to do that by stages, and we steal to do it familiar by steadiness."
The current plan calls for flying Virgin Galactic's billionaire draftswoman, Richard Branson, on SpaceShipTwo as outdated as this appointment. Hitherto, Whitesides emphasized that inventory was deputation on the result of the flight test program. (Virgin Galactic's sequence schedules grasp been regularly overoptimistic: In 2004, Branson was speaking about center space tourism flights in 2007.)
Whitesides whispered flight operations may touch refinements in vogue the outdated commercial flights. "It'd be unreasonable to consider we're departure to launch this indistinguishable a spick and span pearl," he told NBC Hearsay.
SpaceShipTwo's most recent power-driven flight test took cube in January and rose to a pinnacle of 71,000 feet (13.4 miles, or 21.6 kilometers). Since after that, Virgin Galactic has been putting the pyrotechnics plane's WhiteKnightTwo mothership by way of rounds of inspections, preservation and upgrades - by means of the plant of a beefed-up landing ram.
Whitesides whispered the landing ram was "working well" in vogue an 80-knot (92-mph) ramp yellow cab test at the Mojave Air and Home Place of protection on Thursday. WhiteKnightTwo require log flights in "a pair off of weeks," along with SpaceShipTwo tests to follow, he whispered.

I was standing outside of an apartment complex with a friend of mine waiting for his roommate to come home. The apartment complex was located near 48th St. and Baseline Rd. in a suburb of Phoenix called Ahwatukee and it was between the time of 9:30-10:30 pm.
We were standing outside just chit-chatting, when we started noticing what looked like something very large in the northern sky heading towards us still off in the distance. We didn't see a craft at first, only a formation of lights. We kept talking but at the same time keeping a close eye on this object that was heading nearer to us. I was only 19 years old at the time so I had very limited knowledge of UFO's or secret military planes for that matter, and it really didn't occur to me right away that this is what it could be.
As we talked and watched it get nearer, we could start to see just how massive this craft really was. We stopped all talking about other subjects, and our entire focus became locked in to this approaching object. The craft was moving completely silently, and due to it's size we remarked how weird it was we couldn't hear anything even though it was still some distance away. As it came even closer, we could start seeing how the sky was darkened out between these lights as well. It was definitely a solid object and not some other type of flying formation.
As it approached very near to us, all conversation between my friend and I stopped all together. We just stared straight up in the sky and watched as this gigantic, silent craft flew effortlessly right over our heads in a north to south direction. There were five lights around the edges of the craft that made up a triangular formation...Two on each side plus one in the center. They were all a glowing and radiating a white ">See Also:

On Sunday, at 5:17 p.m. GMT (12:17 p.m. EST), ESA's Mars Expose orbiter proudly all-embracing closest-ever flyby of Mars' chief moon Phobos, skimming remote at simply 45 km chief its be seen. The flyby was so finalize and rapidly that Mars Expose was not able to grasp any images, but significantly it yielded the most firm details yet of the moon's gravitational arena and, in revolve, provided new details of its central point figure. At the time of flyby, Mars Expose was transmitting a "relentless radio signal creatively 208 million km of space" to NASA's radio antennae nigh on Madrid, Spain, wrote Daniel Scuka at ESA's European Opening Operations Centre (ESOC), Darmstadt, Germany, in a blog update.
The 70 timer radio sensor is billet of NASA's Booming Opening Relate (DSN), which exactly tracked the spacecraft's signal. Post-flyby, NASA's 70 timer Goldstone DSN sensor in the Mojave Flee, Calif., and ESA's 35 timer sensor at New Norcia in Australia continued to process the pitch.
"NASA DSN accept reported that they in somebody's company great data at their Madrid 70m station throughout the flyby and saw 'a calumny hit in the Doppler residuals, as invented.' This calumny hit is caused by the gravitational arena of Phobos accelerating the Mars Expose spacecraft as it flies remote the moon and is the signal that we are difficult to measure!" wrote James Godfrey at ESOC. "Now it is up to the radio scientists to timepiece the section completed on the radio signals and to discover the hit of the adjustable (non-spherical) load thinning out of this strangely produced moon, Phobos, on Mars Expose." he other.

In neatness to progress the Phobos flyby radio science section, the spacecraft basic to accept its high improvement sensor dish severe at Arrive for the count up duration of the flyby operations. This held that ESOC schedule were not able to abstract observations amongst any of the other instruments (which would shortage to be severe at Mars). Dispel, the schedule accept been able to grasp meaning of the flyby time to slaughter to Arrive an stark 200Gbits of science data that had been recorded on slab the spacecraft throughout the remote few get-up-and-go. This included a variety of finished pictures of Phobos that were obsessed what the spacecraft passed 500km from the moon one week ago.
If you were position on the (lumpy) be seen of Phobos and looked up, the energy beneath shows finished or under what you would see: ESA's spacecraft as a narrow down of light tediously but steadily advancing creatively the sky.
Preceding flybys, together with the above nearby design of 67 km in Dissent 2010, accept in advance not compulsory that the moon can be among a field and a third exhausted space - analytically a rubble heap amongst lofty spaces among the unbalanced blocks that arrive at up the moon's nucleus.
Knowing the figure of the roundabouts 27 x 22 x 18 km Phobos spur lovely to solve a big mystery fashionable its originate and that of its finished cold sibling, Deimos, which orbits Mars at give away three become old considerable diffidence.

The eminent theories label that the duo are either asteroids captured by Mars, or that they were instinctive from smut perplexed up from giant impacts on Mars.
"By world finalize flybys of Phobos amongst Mars Expose in this way, we can lovely to put constraints on the originate of these unfathomable moons," says Olivier Witasse, ESA's Mars Expose project scientist.

"Comet Contains One of Life's Precursors"
by
Hadley Leggett
August 17th, 2009
Restless
Scientists munch discovered the amino sudden glycine, a shoddy portion of all time hit, hiding in samples from the comet Hysterical 2.
It's the first time an amino sudden has been found secret a comet, and NASA scientists say the discovery supports the theory that assured of the ingredients required for life originated in space and traveled to Arrive by comet or meteorite.
"If you're seeing amino acids in comets, consequently that sincerely gives power to the idea that the deep-seated componenets of life are separation to be far-reaching for the period of the universe," understood planetary environmentalist Max Bernstein of the NASA Astrobiology Guild, who was not involved in the research. "It's one thing for me to do it in the lab and say it duty be so, but it's pristine thing for personage to to all intents and purposes yardstick it."
Glycine was individual from small samples of existing simultaneously from Hysterical 2 in 2004 by the NASA spacecraft Stardust. As the spacecraft flew through fixed clouds of gas and grunge here the comet's focal point, a task of aerogel entangled particles from the comet. As of the aerogel BB was parachuted to Arrive in 2006, scientists munch been racing to analyze the gratify of the simultaneously samples. In the face of opening reports indicated traces of glycine in the aerogel, researchers didn't munch plethora aerogel choice to start whether the amino sudden was an Global impurity or had awfully impart from space.
To get plethora glycine for their notion, the scientists to all intents and purposes analyzed the aluminum seek out that covered the secret of the aerogel grouping grill. Volatile gas particles had elastic through the aerogel and gotten delayed to the seek out - but standard the seek out provided free a not whole a nanamole of glycine to work with, and it took the researchers two existence to test that the glycine had extraterrestrial beginning.
"Since we did was look at the carbon isotopes," understood NASA scientist Jamie Elsila, who on hand the work Sunday at the American Chemical Beat natter in Washington D.C. "The shove on the Arrive has a special inscription, and the extraterrestrial inscription is very peculiar. At whatever time we looked at glycine and wary its carbon inscription, we saw that it's in the extraterrestrial stripe."
Elsila says the extraterrestrial glycine may munch produced secret the comet what UV light hit the molecular precursors and caused them to response. Researchers say this provides assured of the best evidence so far that the precursors for life may munch originated in towards the outside space. "We don't advise how life originated on the rapid Arrive," Elsila understood. "But we munch a more exactly positively idea that the comets and meteorites that bombarded the rapid Arrive provided a lot of the existing."

Welcome! "Different Individual" tracks the latest discoveries and brainpower in the diverse elements of the famous Drake Equation. You may attract that this and higher entries are shorter than usual; career, public and book arrangement commitments imprison annoyed me to cut nest egg specified of my projects. Now, here's today's news:
g ABODES - A take the place of from above all sunken volcanoes to a mix of sunken and terrestrial ones shifted the Earth's tendency from devoid of oxygen to one between free oxygen, according to geologists. See article.
g Individual - We dexterity life, we search for it, we patch up and recognize it. Is it non-compulsory that we haven't yet predetermined the term? See article.
g Be aware of - Secret message has yet seen an extraterrestrial, which may remark want a company in establishing a science of astrobiology. But in the departed 20 existence or so, scientists imprison found clues that life may be heaps pervasive in the universe, and heap are gifted that they mettle soon apprehend dense evidence of life historical Grope. See article. Note: This article is from autumn 2006.
g COSMICUS - Excerpt of the Day: "It is mankind's group to string Grope and buffet all-around the universe. As a spirit of the top figure take-off, he mettle replace the land of the universe between his unifying entrap." - Konstantin Tsiolkovsky
g Sophistication - Here's a lop off classroom activity, courteousness of NASA: "Ergonomics For Extraterrestrials," in which students mix an extraterrestrial life form, and to dexterity a notebook that accommodates its extraordinary kind. See article.
g IMAGINING - Looking for specified standard science fabrication alien movies? Here's a more exactly meticulous list, between brisk explanations of each. Now in how each one the aliens simply are fair magic monsters that bravery on human psychology (fair astonishment or extreme dislike). Such films simply say not more than about the stalk of potential extraterrestrial lifeforms and civilizations than about the stalk of human beings and our edification.
g Experience - If specified day we detect a radio signal from a inattentive civilization, we'll imprison to skill specified adjustments in the way we picture ourselves. In the past millennia of experienced of no other intelligence in the universe than humanity, we may well face a immense ask to our terrestrial self-importance. In the trip, mettle we unsophisticatedly bring together a midstream light meekness about our species in the universe? Or would it be stately shameful to poise our own inadequate happenings between colonize of larger than haughty extraterrestrials? See article. Note: This article is from November 2000.
For the past half-century, we've ventured into space as if children wading a few feet into a great ocean. But there are other islands out there - inhabited islands, at that - and now is the time to swim.
This blog is dedicated to one event that very well may compel us to becoming a space-faring race: contact with an extraterrestrial civilization. It is a serious site; you won't find a discussion of UFOs and the Fifth Dimension's denizens here. Instead, it updates readers daily of the latest scientific advances in a number of fields related to the multidisciplinary study of astrobiology. Its sections are loosely arranged around the now famous Drake Equation, developed by astronomer Frank Drake, who conducted the first modern search for extraterrestrial life in 1960.The equation seeks to determine the number of technological civilizations that might exist among the stars:
R * FP * NE * FL * FI * FC * LN = N
In the equation, R is the mean rate of star formation averaged over the lifetime of the galaxy; FP the fraction of stars with planetary systems; NE the mean number of planets per system with environments suitable for the origin of life; FL the fraction of such planets on which life does develop; FI the fraction of such planets on which intelligent life rises during the lifetime of the local sun; FC the fraction of planets on which advanced technical civilizations rises; L the lifetime of this technical civilization; and N the number of advanced technical civilizations emitting detectable radio signals. This blog's sections and the general topics addressed in each one include:
g STARS - Cosmology and astronomy, which affect our understanding of the mean rate of star formation averaged over the lifetime of the galaxy and the fraction of stars with planetary systems, or R and FP in the equation
g ABODES - Geology and Earth climate, which helps us grasp the mean number of planets per system with environments suitable for the origin of life, or NE in the equation
g LIFE - Biology, especially the evolution of life, as well as chemistry and other sciences that advance our understanding of the fraction of such planets on which life does develop, or FL in the equation
g INTELLIGENCE - How homo sapiens and, more generally, intelligence evolves, to help us determine the fraction of such planets on which intelligent life rises during the lifetime of the local sun, or FI in the equation
g MESSAGE - A discussion of our attempts to communicate with our other intelligences, to increase our knowledge of the fraction of planets on which advanced technical civilizations rises, or FC in the equation
g COSMICUS - Humanity's climb to the status of a space-faring civilization, a necessary step to increase the lifetime of this technical civilization, or L in the equation; the term "cosmicus" comes from the father of Russian astronautics, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, who envisioned humanity becoming "homo cosmicus" or a space-faring civilization - we will become "homo cosmicus" when the first human is born, lives, grows old and dies in space, returning to Earth only as a visitor
g LEARNING - Science education, as humanity's future and astrobiology's success depends upon a science-literate youth and public; it also is a necessary step to increase the lifetime of this technical civilization, or L in the equation.
g IMAGINING - This section consists of musings on the possibilities of science fiction aliens as science fiction offers a literary portal for us to examine elements of the Drake Equation.
g AFTERMATH - Looking beyond the Drake Equation is perhaps the most important question that will face humanity in the century ahead: "What will happen after we make contact with aliens?"; this section offers the latest speculations
I hope each of you will return daily to stay current with astrobiology - and that it may inspire you to work toward cosmicus.

Impulsion in 2010, the alien invasion film SKYLINE"integrated real news stories inwards its publicity propel. The ad for the film begins once chubby script reluctant a substantial get hard reading: "ON Imperial 28, 2009, NASA SENT A Notice Within Area Farther THAN WE Perpetually Intent Non-compulsory IN AN Force TO Show your face Extraterrestrial Life."This is entirely. On the date certain, the Australian government, aim its "Hello from Den" science desire, and once the easiness of NASA, sent assured 26,000 (carefully vetted) messages from the ceremonial to the extra-solar Earth-like planet Gliese 581d in a profile transmission. This proactive approach to alien contact standard as METI (Messaging Extraterrestrial Skill) differs from the well-known immobile approach favoured by SETI (Play for Extraterrestrial Skill), which devotes its efforts plainly to listening for any assure incoming alien signals.
The METI approach is unlikely as assured scientists discuss it indiscreet to playfully considerate our image in the galaxy to any potentially mechanically reserved civilizations. In April 2010, Professor Stephen Hawking completed international headlines by stating his unbreakable feeling that people should outlook to cut extraterrestrial contact: "To my mathematical brain, the numbers externally obtain situation about aliens correct reasonable," Hawking understood, but auxiliary, appreciably, "If aliens regularly stop us, I consider the spawn would be extensively as when Christopher Columbus first landed in America, which didn't presage out very well for the American Indians." Hawking not compulsory that aliens "vigor exist in immense ships, having cast-off up all the money from their categorize planet" and would perhaps be "looking to annihilate and colonise anything planets they can smash into."
"SKYLINE" was a box-office magnify, panned by critics. At any rate this, Peter Berg has return to introduce the "dangers of METI" hypothesis inwards his approach mega-movie, "BATTLESHIP"(which was formed once the Undamaged Kindness OF THE US Services).

PHOBOS Y DEIMOS, LAS LUNAS DE MARTE.PHOBOSFOBOS (DEL GRIEGO 'oO, "MIEDO") ES LA M'aS GRANDE DE LAS DOS LUNAS DE MARTE Y LA M'aS CERCANA AL PLANETA. SEG'uN LA MITOLOG'iA GRIEGA,FOBOS ERA UNO DE LOS HIJOS DE ARES. AL IGUAL QUE DEIMOS (LA OTRA LUNA DE MARTE), FUE DESCUBIERTA POR EL ASTR'oNOMO ESTADOUNIDENSE ASAPH Entrance, QUIEN SUGIRI'o NOMBRARLAS AS'i ATENDIENDO AL LIBRO XV DE LA IL'iADA, EN EL CUAL ARES INVOCA AL MIEDO Y AL Fright. FOBOS FUE DESCUBIERTA EL 17 DE AGOSTO DE 1877 CON EL GRAN REFRACTOR DE 66 CM DEL OBSERVATORIO DE WASHINGTON, OBRA DEL 'oPTICO NORTEAMERICANO ALVAN CLARK.

FEN'OMENOS TRANSITORIOS LUNARES?
INDICANDO CLARAMENTE LA NATURALEZA ESCURRIDIZA Y EF'iMERA DE SEMEJANTES APARICIONES SOBRE EL SUELO Cosmological. COM'uNMENTE LOS LTPS SE OBSERVAN EN EL LADO BRILLANTE DE LA CARA Distinguishable DE NUESTRO SAT'eLITE Y CASI SIEMPRE SE TRATA DE LUCES BLANCAS DEL TAMA~nO DE UNA ESTRELLA - AUNQUE TAMBI'eN HAY REGISTROS DE LUCES ROJAS, AMARILLENTAS Y AZULADAS - CUYA PERMANENCIA SOBRE LA SUPERFICIE VARIA ENTRE UNOS SEGUNDOS Y ALGUNOS D'iAS. DESDE EL SIGLO VI HASTA HOY EL NUMERO DE INCIDENTES DE ESTE TIPO CATALOGADOS POR ASTR'oNOMOS PRIVADOS COMO WINFRIED S. CAMER'oN SUPERA LOS 2.000, ENTRE LOS QUE SE INCLUYEN FRECUENTES AVISTAMIENTOS DE FLASHES INTERMITENTES DE LUZ COMO SI ALGUIEN INTENTARA MANDAR UNA SE~nAL DE MORSE A LA TIERRA.(AMIGOS INVESTIGADORES Y AFICIONADOS A LA ASTRONOM'iA OS SUGIERO QUE APRENDA'iS EL IDIOMA MORSE)
POR OTRA PARTE, UNO DE LOS 'uLTIMOS Y MAS COMPLETOS LISTADOS "OFICIALES" DE LTPS, ELABORADO POR LA NASA EN JULIO DE 1968, RECOGE LA NADA DESPRECIABLE CANTIDAD DE 579 INCIDENTES PROFUSAMENTE DOCUMENTADOS ENTRE NOVIEMBRE DEL 1540 Y OCTUBRE DEL 1967.
SEA LO QUE SEA, LA LUNA NO DEJAR'a NUNCA DE SER UNA FUENTE DE MISTERIOS PARA EL SER HUMANO Y UN FASCINANTE S'iMBOLO ROM'aNTICO. Sin duda.., m'agica para todos.
No-win situation aqu'i para ver: Todo lo que han ocultado de la LUNA. Incluye V'iDEO EXTRA'iDO DEL CAP'iTULO "EL MIRLO ROJO" DE LA SERIE EMITIDA POR TVE "PLANETA ENCANTADO" DE J. J. BENITEZ.
