Paranormal Investigations In Montana Part 2
Investigation of the paranormal is not just about haunted places however. Besides ghost hunting groups, there have been other paranormal investigations in Montana of course, including those with focuses in UFO and cryptozoology. Be aware that many who investigate UFOs or Cryptids (mysterious animals) do not consider their field of study to be paranormal at all, but simply aspects of science we don't understand yet (which many ghost hunters also believe about ghosts!)A good source for those interested in Montana UFO cases is "Montana UFO Sightings". Montana has had many significant UFO investigations, including that by the Condon Report of the Mariana UFO Incident; the movie is also discussed here. Great Falls is a regular UFO hotspot, probably in connection to the Malmstrom Airforce Base there. Montana was also famous for a wave of UFO-related cattle mutilations in the 1970s; a book was written about the situation and you can read the PDF version of the book "Mystery Stalks the Prairie" too.Cryptozoology also has had some interesting cases in Montana, including the Flathead Lake Monster and numerous Bigfoot reports. You can start learning about the history of the Flathead Lake Monster investigations through Loren Coleman's Cryptomundo.com website; you can learn more about the monster at the Flathead Lakers site. Be sure and check out the Cryptomundo entries on the Shunka Warak'in, a beast resembling a hyena or wolf that was said to live in Montana; one was shot here and mounted by a taxidermist. The mounted specimen was recently found...but the controversy continues. The Wikipedia article is here. I actually have been personally involved with the Shunka Warak'in case since the 1990s, when I contacted Loren and told him about my Ioway tribe's story about the animal and our name for it. "Shunka" means "dog"; "warak'in" means "to carry something"-- it is translated as "Carries-Off-Dogs" because the animal used to hunt and kill dogs in our tipi camps. Finally, there is a list of Montana Bigfoot sightings was put together by the Gulf Coast Bigfoot Research Organization, and another one (scroll down) by "Searching for Bigfoot". I recommend Cryptomundo.com for all your mystery animal interests. You can also read a couple of chapters on Montana's Bigfoot and the Flathead Lake Monster in Edward Lawrence's "Mysteries and Legends of Montana" (2007).
